FAQ
Everything you need to know
What is NeuroKinetic Therapy?
NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT) is a movement assessment and treatment approach, developed by David Weinstock, that explores muscle coordination and movement patterns. A practitioner may use manual muscle testing, hands-on techniques, and targeted exercises as part of an individualized plan.
Is this massage?
Not exactly. Sessions are built around NeuroKinetic Therapy®, an assessment-led approach to how your muscles are coordinating. Hands-on techniques such as myofascial release, pressure point and neuromuscular work are used where the assessment shows they're needed, alongside gentle activation and home exercises. It's different from a relaxation or spa massage, and it isn't physical therapy, chiropractic or medical treatment.
Can NKT find the root cause of my pain?
Pain can have many contributing factors, and no single assessment can identify the cause of every person's symptoms. NKT may offer one way to explore movement patterns, but findings should be considered alongside your history, symptoms, function, and appropriate healthcare assessment.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no universal number. Your plan is guided by your goals, how you respond, and ongoing reassessment rather than a guaranteed session count.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are $100, paid in person at your appointment. Nothing is charged ahead of time, and there's no contract. In-home and travel sessions are arranged and priced individually.
Where do you see clients?
Grace serves the San Francisco Bay Area and the Birmingham, Alabama area. In-home sessions and travel to other locations may be available by arrangement. Location details are shared when she confirms your appointment.
How do I book?
Send a quick appointment request with your preferred days and times, or call or text Grace. She'll get back to you to confirm a time. Your appointment isn't booked until she confirms.
Can I try NKT if other treatments haven't helped?
You can discuss it with Grace as one possible approach. Bring information about your symptoms and prior care, and ask how progress will be measured and when a different assessment or referral may be appropriate.
Does NKT permanently eliminate chronic pain?
No responsible provider can guarantee permanent pain relief. Some people report meaningful improvement, while others may experience partial, temporary, or no benefit. Outcomes depend on many factors.
Does NKT replace medical care or physical therapy?
No. It shouldn't automatically replace medical evaluation or other appropriate treatment. Discuss your care plan with the relevant qualified professionals, especially for new, severe, worsening, or unexplained symptoms.
Do you offer in-home sessions?
In-home sessions may be available for clients who are managing a health condition, recovering from surgery or injury, or unable to travel comfortably. Grace brings a portable treatment table. Mention it in your request, and she'll confirm availability, scheduling and pricing before anything is booked.
How is this different from a regular massage?
A massage can feel great, but tight spots often come back. NKT looks at why a muscle keeps overworking, usually because another one has gone quiet. Grace releases what's overworking, retrains what's gone quiet with gentle, specific activation, and gives you exercises so the change has a better chance of lasting.
Can I book hands-on work only?
Yes. Mention it in your request. Most people get the most from a full session, where the NKT assessment guides which areas the hands-on work focuses on.
Do you accept insurance?
No. This is a self-pay practice, and payment is made in person at your appointment.
Will I have homework?
Usually, yes. Short home exercises are part of the plan, so the work you do in a session keeps going between visits.
Does it hurt?
NKT muscle testing uses light, gentle pressure, and retraining is gentle activation rather than hard exercise or stretching. Some hands-on techniques, like pressure point work, can feel intense on tender spots, but you're always in control of the pressure.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move in. If hands-on work is needed on a particular area, Grace will explain what works best, and you'll be professionally draped.
When should I see a doctor instead?
For sudden, severe or rapidly worsening pain, a new injury, possible fracture, chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, sudden severe headache, new weakness or numbness, fever, or any symptom that needs a diagnosis, seek medical care first. For emergencies, call 911.
